Reprieve is a courageous group of lawyers, investigators and campaigners fighting to abolish the death penalty, and end extreme human rights abuses carried out in the name of "counterterrorism" or "national security".

As a small charity fighting abuses perpetrated by powerful governments, they have to be smart, creative and tenacious. They investigate its clients' cases and fights on their behalf in courts of law, and in the court of public opinion, shifting the mindsets of decision-makers as well as the general public. Their clients, their families and communities are central in this work. Wherever possible, they support them to tell their own stories.

Their casework gives them direct insights into the experiences of people facing extreme abuses. Together with their partners in national organisations across the world, they channel that insight into campaigns for systemic change.

Since it was founded 25 years ago, Reprieve has directly prevented the execution of over 600 people across the world, as well helping thousands more through its strategic initiatives. Support from players of People's Postcode Lottery has enabled them to prevent the execution of child defendants sentenced to death for protest-related offences in Saudi Arabia; help free every single person from Malawi's death row, nearly 200 people in total; and to launch a resentencing project to assist 5,000 men and women sentenced to the mandatory death penalty in Kenya; to give just a few examples.

Thanks to players of People's Postcode Lottery, they will continue to provide vital assistance to thousands of people whose circumstances have made them extremely vulnerable, across the world.
